Andy Warhol's Iconic Marilyn Monroe Portrait Sells For Record $195 Million

The portrait also set the record for the most expensive artwork by a US artist sold at an auction.

The sale was done at the auction house Christie's in New York.

The portrait shows Monroe in vibrant close-up -- hair yellow, eyeshadow blue, and lips red -- on a turquoise background.

As per the reports, portion of the proceeds will be "generously donated by the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation.

It will benefit charities providing urgent medical and educational services to children."

The Monroe portrait has became the second-most expensive auctioned piece of art in the world.

The first was Leonardo da Vinci’s "Salvator Mundi," which sold for $450 million in 2017.
